The morning began quietly, with a Blue Tit flitting through the branches, before the calm was broken by a Buzzard being chased by a determined Crow. Over the water, four Common Teal took flight, while a Coot paddled steadily along the surface. A Cormorant soared with wings outstretched, and a juvenile Eurasian Goshawk was spotted high in the sky. Along the banks, Eurasian Wigeon, Great Tit, Greenfinch, and a Mallard Duck went about their day, each displaying their subtle beauty. A curious Nuthatch rounded off the visit, pausing just long enough to capture a perfect moment. During the visit, I was lucky enough to witness – and photograph – one of Britain’s most iconic birds in action: the Kingfisher. Watching a Kingfisher hunt is always a special moment. Their speed, precision, and bold colours make them a joy to photograph. This particular bird put on a fantastic display, diving with incredible accuracy and emerging triumphantly with a fish in its beak. It’s one of those scenes that reminds me why I love wildlife photography so much. Below are a few of the shots I captured during the session.
